Volunteers are needed to help with front desk duties.  United Community Center cannot mentor hundreds of children without your friendly smile and skills!

Volunteer Days and Times:

Volunteer: Facilities

Lewisville, TX

We believe in building healthy families and one way to do that is by fighting food insecurity. The Christian Community Action helps low-income families by providing a food pantry that they can attend after they receive a voucher.

It is the largest client choice pantry in North Texas and serves roughly 500 families a week. 

Volunteer Days and Times:

Mon- Fri (select a day) and some weekends (as needed)

8am- 5pm (various shifts)

Duties:

*Painting, replacing ceiling tiles, floor installation, vacuum carpets, sweep floors, and general cleaning of community areas

Volunteer: Donation Dock Sorting

Community Storehouse needs volunteers who can help receive, sort, and distribute donated items to their resale shops.

*Must complete background check ($12 for every volunteer 13 years of age and older)

*Must complete 1 hr orientation prior to volunteer (available days Thursday 5PM and Saturday 9AM)

Volunteer: Spring Campus Work Day

Keller, TX

We believe in providing a safe and secure environment for children and so do our friends at Christ's Haven for Children. They are dedicated to showing foster children what a safe and secure household looks like.


Volunteers are needed for the Spring Campus Work Day!  It is a great opportunity to work alongside the house parents and children as we maintain and repair the grounds and facilities.  This is a great opportunity for groups and families (Kids are welcome as long as they are supervised)!

In addition to enjoying some sunshine and teamwork, we invite you to enjoy a cookout style lunch at the campus pavilion at the close of our time together!

Volunteer: Kitchen Team

Fort Worth, TX

We believe childen should have enough food to live an active and healthy life. We are proud to partner with Taste Project to help end food insecurity in Fort Worth!

If you love to be in the kitchen, then we have an opportunity for you! The Kitchen Team is responsible for ensuring the highest food quality. Food Prep includes cleaning, chopping, and preparing raw ingredients.  Prep Cooks and Line Cooks take direction from the Executive Chef to create each plate.

For each position, an online training will be required prior to starting.  Once you sign up, we will send the link and other details in a confirmation email.

Hours:

Tuesday-Sunday 9 AM- 12 PM (training at 8:30 AM)

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Prep Team 
  • Inspect and clean, and maintain food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices.
  • Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, and rotating stock.
  • Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare them for consumption.
  • Stocks and maintains sufficient levels of food products at line stations to support a smooth service period.
Prep Cook
  • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Prepare relishes and hors d’oeuvres.
  • Bake breads, rolls, cakes, and pastries.
  • Butcher and dress animals, fowl, or shellfish, or cut and bone meat prior to cooking.
Line Cook
  • Bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods.
  • Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience.
  • Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils.
  • Portion, arrange, and garnish food, according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications.
Kitchen Team Lead
  • Manage all checklists for the Kitchen Team.
  • Provide leadership and answer key questions of the Kitchen Team, and report critical issues to the manager.
  • Assist the Executive Chef in expediting.
  • Perform cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpet, and tidying up host stand, taking out trash, and checking and cleaning bathroom. 

Basic Qualifications Include: 

  • No experience needed to volunteer on the Prep Team.  On-site training will be provided.
  • Prep Cook must complete onsite training.  (Pre-requisite: Prep Team Training)
  • Line Cook must complete on-site training.  (Pre-requisite: Prep Cook Training).
  • Kitchen Team Lead must complete on-site training and maintain a valid Food Handlers Card.  (Pre-requisite: Line Cook Training and 20 hours of service which can be waived with prior experience verification)

Volunteer: Welcome Team (Restaurant)

Are you a people person?  Greeters are the first people our guests meet at Taste Community Restaurant.  Greeters explain our pay-what-you-can concept and ensure folks feel welcome and important.  Host/Hostesses show guests to their seats and ensure everyone feels right at home. All volunteers must complete an online training which will be sent after you request to volunteer in a confirmation email.

Hours:

Tuesday- Sunday 11 AM- 2 PM (training at 10:30 AM)

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Lobby Attendant
  • Organize and clean extra seating including high chairs and extra chairs.
  • Clean lobby floors and counters ensuring a tidy host stand.
  • Clean windows and sweep outside ensuring a tidy entrance.
  • Prepare tables for meals, including arranging additional chairs and/or high chairs.
  • Clean and organize menus for reuse.
Greeter
  • Greet guests as they come and go with a warm smile and making eye contact.
  • Open doors for guests.
  • On busy days, greet guests from our exterior hostess stand.
  • Tend to special Guest needs and requests including water and seating accommodations.
Host/Hostess
  • Greet guests as they come and go with a warm smile and making eye contact.
  • Manage the flow of Guests into the Dining and Bar areas, provide accurate wait times to incoming Guests if appropriate
  • Inform Guest of current promotion and who will be serving them to ensure a smooth handoff to the service staff
  • Answer incoming calls to the restaurant and provide appropriate service.
Welcome Team Lead
  • Greet guests as they come and go with a warm smile and making eye contact.
  • Manage all checklists for the Welcome Team.
  • Provide leadership and answer key questions of the Welcome Team, and report critical issues to the manager.
  • Perform cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpet, and tidying up host stand, taking out trash, and checking and cleaning bathroom.  

Basic Qualifications Include:

  • No experience needed to volunteer as a Lobby Attendant.  On-site training will be provided.
  • Greeters must complete onsite training.  (Pre-requisite: Lobby Attendant Training)
  • Hosts/Hostesses must complete on-site training.  (Pre-requisite: Greeter Training).
  • Welcome Team Lead must complete on-site training and maintain a valid Food Handlers Card.  (Pre-requisite: Host/Hostess Training and 20 hours of service which can be waived with prior experience verification)

Volunteer: Service Team (Restaurant)

The service team is responsible for providing an exceptional experience for our guests.  Servers greet customers, answer questions related to the menu items, and make recommendations.  Food Runners and Bussers support Servers by delivering meals to our guests and clearing plates.

All volunteers must complete an online training which will be sent in a confirmation email.

Hours:

Tuesday-Sunday 10:30 AM- 1:30 PM (Training at 10 AM)

Tuesday-Sunday 11 AM- 2 PM (Training at 10:30 AM)

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Busser 
  • Clear plates and glasses from tables and take to the dishwasher station for cleaning.
  • Clean tables and counters after guests have finished dining.
  • Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware and ensuring salt, pepper, and table condiments are filled.
  • Perform cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, taking out trash, and checking and cleaning bathroom.
Food Runner
  • Prepare hot and cold drinks for guests.
  • Perform cleaning duties, such as tidying up expedite station, drink station, taking out trash, and checking and cleaning bathroom.
  • Serve food or beverages to guests, and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required. 
Server
  • Present, explain, and recommend menu items for guests.
  • Take food and beverage orders from guests and deliver to the drink station and kitchen.
  • Collect payments from guests.
  • Perform cleaning duties, such as tidying up server station, taking out trash, and checking and cleaning bathroom.
Service Team Lead
  • Manage all checklists for the Service Team.
  • Provide leadership and answer key questions of the service team, and report critical issues to the manager.
  • Perform cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpet, and tidying up server station, taking out trash, or checking and cleaning bathroom.
  • Bring wine glasses to the table and pour wine for guests.

 

Basic Qualifications Include:

  • No experience needed to volunteer as a Busser.  On-site training will be provided.
  • Food Runners must complete onsite training.  (Pre-requisite: Busser Training)
  • Servers must complete on-site training.  (Pre-requisite: Food Runner Training).
  • Service Team Lead must complete on-site training and maintain a valid Food Handlers Card.  (Pre-requisite: Server Training and 20 hours of service which can be waived with prior experience verification)

*Please note, although it is not necessary to handle guest payments to volunteer for any of these positions; if you would like to, you must complete a basic background check.  This is only to ensure the security of our guests’ payment methods.

Volunteer: Food Pantry

Volunteers are needed to help label and sort items in the food pantry, cleaning the shelves and floors and other needs to help the house parents shop for their family meals.

This is a great opportunity for groups and families (Kids are welcome as long as they are supervised)! Spots are limited so do not wait to sign up!

Volunteer: Bingo & Bagels

Every Friday morning we share breakfast and play bingo with those chronically experiencing homelessness. It is a time to play bingo and show them they have a commnity that cares.

Volunteer: Survivor Support Group Meal

Fort Worth, TX

We believe that the intentional building of relationships helps to restore the well-being of a person and so do our friends at The Net.

Survivor Support Group is a safe place to share struggles, be known, celebrate victories and heal, no matter where each woman is at on her journey. This weekly group starts with a shared meal followed by honest conversation and accountability led by survivor leaders.

Volunteers are needed to bring a meal for 25 adults (home-cooked or catered). Food brings women to the table and helps create community as they start their healing process.
